Biography
Glen’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in the tradition of landscape painting, yet his approach is refreshingly modern. Rather than working from the confines of a traditional studio, he chooses to paint directly from life, capturing the natural world in the places he knows and loves. For over a decade, Glen has returned to the beaches and forests of Fire Island, the intimate gardens of friends, and the sun-soaked shores of Vieques, Puerto Rico, continually finding new inspiration in these familiar landscapes. His work reflects a deep connection to these environments, each visit offering new insights into the interplay of light, color, and time.
Beyond these beloved locations, travel has played a pivotal role in expanding Glen’s creative horizons. The shifting landscapes of both familiar and far-flung destinations—from coastal retreats to vibrant cityscapes—serve as constant sources of inspiration. Glen’s wanderlust allows him to absorb diverse atmospheres, soaking in the subtleties of light and nature from around the world. Whether exploring remote islands or bustling urban gardens, these experiences fuel his ever-evolving artistic vision.
In these varied settings, Glen has developed a unique sensitivity to the dynamic relationships between light and color, seeking to capture the fleeting moments when nature reveals its most dramatic transformations. His paintings are not mere representations of place but an attempt to convey the living, breathing essence of the landscape itself.
Recently, Glen has expanded his artistic practice to ceramics, working with both hand-built and wheel-thrown techniques. This tactile medium offers him a new way to explore form and texture, providing a rich counterpoint to his fluid paintings.
Born in Deerfield, IL, and with a background in stage design and art history from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, Glen’s understanding of space, light, and narrative influences every aspect of his creative work. He now divides his time between Manhattan, San Juan, and Vieques, Puerto Rico—three vibrant locations that continuously inspire his artistic pursuits.
